Philosophy & Mission
We, the members of St. Francis Xavier School community, believe that our school exists so that our
students may come to know and love God while pursuing academic excellence and may develop an active
faith life in the Catholic tradition. We believe that the daily example of our teachers and the
witness of parents, who are the first heralds of the gospel for their children, provide our students
with powerful models for Christian and human growth.
We strive to create a Catholic educational community in which the spiritual, intellectual, physical,
and emotional needs of each student are met within the scope of our educational program. In our pursuit
of academic excellence we provide our children with diverse educational opportunities, utilizing a
variety of learning experiences so that we can educate each student for a life of intellectual inquiry,
prayer, and service to the world through the Church. In union with parents, we strive to discover and
develop the unique gifts and talents of our children, moving them with dignity towards their Christian
destiny.
Vision of a St. Francis Xavier Graduate
We envision graduates of St. Francis Xavier School to be individuals who respect and value self,
recognize their unique potential, and use their gifts to touch the world. They will meet challenges
with flexibility and responsibility, showing and accepting love enthusiastically.
St. Francis Xavier graduates, filled with the Spirit, will be prepared to accept themselves and others
as they grow in Christian optimism and responsibility for their future, that of the Church, and of the world.
Maintaining a sense of wonder and viewing positively all educational avenues, our graduates should be problem
solvers, alone or within a group, able to make moral decisions in difficult situations. We expect them to
have an awareness of others and their rights, evidenced by their respect and responsibility for the welfare
of others and the care of the earth.
Mission Statement
St. Francis Xavier School is called by the Archdiocese of Chicago and the parish community, with the
guidance of the Gospel, to put the works of Christ into action. Thus, we recognize and share in the
threefold mission of the Church:
- to proclaim the message revealed by God through Christ
- to provide the experience of a Christian community
- to share with students a life of prayer and Christian service
St. Francis Xavier School is a Catholic educational community where the values of the Gospel are
proclaimed and experienced in all that we do. By daily experiences of these Gospel values students will
come to know themselves as they have been created by God and to experience an educational environment that
allows them to maximize their potential spiritually, academically, emotionally and physically.
Statement of Non-discrimiation
St. Francis Xavier School does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, national or ethnic
origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship or grant
programs, and athletic and other school administered programs or in the hiring and assigning of faculty
and staff.
