History

There Was a Time...

There was a time when riding to school might have meant saddling up.  When Saint Francis Xavier Parish School was founded in 1917, horses and carriages were popular forms of transportation.  The 140 students who blazed a trail were fortunate to have the Sisters of Saint Joseph as their teachers and mentors.  Today, nearly 700 Saint Francis Xavier students come to school via foot, bicycle, and auto.  These students are ably taught by 38 full-time and 8 part-time instructors, all of the lay variety.

There was a time when 4 rooms comprised our schoolhouse back in the early days.  Today, SFX students, faculty, and staff fill 34 classrooms.  With record enrollment in 1999, our Day School expanded to the East Campus, at Catherine and Bell.  There, pre-schoolers, kindergartners, and 1st graders enjoy their own dedicated staff and facilities.

There was a time when SFX tuition was just $300 a year.  That wasn't 1917...that was just 30 years ago!  Today, tuition expense for one SFX student is $4,250, an increase of over 1,400% since the 1978-9 school year.

So much has changed.  But the mission of Saint Francis Xavier Parish and School remains the same.  We pray, we learn, we serve. Take a look inside at the many ways the SFX students, parents, faculty, and staff live that mission.  We at Saint Francis reverence our past:  our founders, our visionaries, our laborers.  We look forward to our future with hope and excitement...

The history of St. Francis Xavier is rich in detail.  To take a step back in time, view a compilation of our school's history... SFX School History.
