Young Adult Ministry
Young Adult Ministry is St. Francis Xavier’s outreach to people in their 20s and 30s, married and single. Our purpose is to put you in contact with other young adults and programs that respond to your needs.
There are a number of ways to get involved:
- Connect with any of the existing ministries in the parish. For the list of contact names and numbers for St. Francis Xavier Parish Ministries, click on the Quick Link to the right.
- The Adult Faith Formation section of this website describes options for Scripture Study and the Bridges Program. Both options invite conversation/small faith group sharing, while learning more about the Catholic faith. For details, please contact Sue Matthews: 708-352-0168 or smatthews@sfx-lg.org.
- Consider helping with Sunday Mass in any liturgical ministry. We welcome your gifts as a lector, minister of Communion, usher or greeter. Contact names and numbers for each ministry can be found in the St. Francis Xavier Parish Ministries list accessed through the Quick Link to the right.
- If you play an instrument or enjoy singing, and would like to share your gift of music, please contact Mr. Allen Sterwalt, the Director of Music Ministry: 708-352-0168 or asterwalt@sfx-lg.org. He is looking forward to having a conversation with you about the various choirs and other opportunities.
- St. Francis Xavier has a strong Social Justice/ Human Concerns outreach, including: Peace & Justice committee, Habitat for Humanity, BEDS, the Food Pantry, and the Respect Life committee. To share your gifts, visit the Human Concerns section of the St. Francis Xavier Parish Ministries list accessed through the Quick Link to the right.
- Consider joining the SFX Catholic Women's Club or the SFX Men's Club. Their mission statements, current activities, and contact information can be found on their website pages.
- Join us for Taizé Prayer. Taizé Prayer is a contemplative style of prayer, which combines simple repetitive melodies sung by all, prayerful silence, scripture readings, and prayers of the faithful. People of all ages are welcome. Taizé prayer takes place the second Friday of every month at 7:30 p.m., either at St. Francis Xavier or across the street at Grace Lutheran Church. Contact Mr. Allen Sterwalt, 708-352-0168 or asterwalt@sfx-lg.org, for additional details.
- St. Francis Xavier is one of 22 different parishes affiliated with the Kateri Center, an area-wide Young Adult Ministry outreach in the Western suburbs. The Kateri Center, in collaboration with the Young Adult Ministry Office for the Archdiocese of Chicago, offers (and/or can be a resource for) opportunities for spiritual enrichment, service projects, social gatherings, adult faith formation, and individual support.
